FAQ

Here are your frequently asked questions!

If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please email su.info@lse.ac.uk with your query and we will be in touch.

Welcome

Who can attend Welcome events?

All LSE students from all levels of study - unless explicitly specified. Just because it's a "Welcome", doesn’t mean it’s not useful, relevant or just plain FUN for returning students. And just because you’re not an undergrad doesn’t mean you should miss out!

Where can I buy tickets for Welcome Week Events

Most of our Welcome activities are free, but you’ll need to get tickets for some events. Check out the individual event links above to find out more.

Does LSE have any sports teams?

Yes! There are loads of opportunities to take part in sport and exercise at LSE through the Sports Clubs (for more competitive participation) or for general classes and relaxation - there's always Active Lifestyle.

How do I join a society?

We have dozens of student societies and creative communities to join here at LSE, which you’ll be able to sign up to once you’ve enrolled or at Welcome Fair which takes place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th September 2020. This year we’re hosting it virtually - but don’t worry you’ll get almost all the same services as you would at a physical event. For more information on our societies, visit our Communities page (microsite one).

Does LSESU have a gym?

Yes! You can find the LSESU Gym on the 4th Floor in the Saw Swee Hock Building. We aim to keep prices low and provide an excellent service that suits your needs. The LSESU Gym offers a wide variety of facilities, including a range of resistance machines, cardio equipment and an extended free weights area, all featuring Technogym equipment. Membership of the LSESU Gym also includes free access to a range of fitness classes. Find more info here.

I can’t see a club or society I want, what can I do?

Although we have hundreds of clubs and societies, we know there are still lots that we may not have. We can work with you to get a group set up if you would be interested in running the group. You can find out how to start a new group on our website here. If you think we need a new group, but would not be interested in being a student group leader, simply email us at su.arcstaff@lse.ac.uk to let us know your interests and we will put the word out to students who may be interested in getting the group together.

Can I join more than one club or society?

Yes! We have a broad range of student groups for you to choose from and you can join as many as you like. Each of them offer different things, so make sure you check your calendar to fit everything in. Some of them are good to join for one-off events that interest you too!

I have access needs, how can I request reasonable adjustments for an LSESU activity or event?

We want to welcome all of our students and make our activities as inclusive as possible. If you have any access requirements then you can contact the organiser (if they are listed in the activity’s publicity) or email su.info@lse.ac.uk

How do I get a student Oyster card?

Students in London can pay less for public transport in TWO ways.
1) Get a 16-25 Railcard: Also available for Mature students aged 26 or over and in full time education. It costs £30 for the year, but you get a 1/3 off all anytime or off-peak national rail fares, PLUS you can add this discount on to your Oyster card to also to get to get a 1/3 discount on off-peak overground, underground and DLR travel. This is a particularly good idea if you’ll be traveling by rail to go home for the holidays. Find out more on the 16-25 Railcard website.
2) Get a 18+ Student Oyster Photocard: This is FREE and gets you 30% off the price of adult-rate Travelcards and Bus & Tram Passes. This is really useful if you regularly get around by public transport. The only downside is that you need to be enrolled at LSE before you apply, as TfL will need to confirm your registration with the University. Find out more about Student Oyster Photocard.

When will the Students’ Union be advertising jobs for students?

We’re aiming to recruit new students over August and September this year. We will have a range of jobs from bar staff, photographers, admin support and more. Keep an eye on our “Work With Us” page or sign up to our Welcome Mailing list to get the latest updates in your mailbox.

What is the difference between LSESU events and LSE events?

LSESU is your Students’ Union. We are an independent organisation however often work closely with LSE (and even have some partnership projects). We are here to represent you and make your time at LSE the best it can be. Both LSE and ourselves have some amazing activities lined up and so why not mix and match?

A little thank you in advance...

When you spend with us, you’re investing right back into your experience at LSE. That’s cool, right?

All proceeds from sales in our outlets, events or partner marketing activity go directly back into putting on amazing events, activities and support for students. So, by using our services, you are contributing to the LSE student experience and helping us to reinvest into the things we do for our members.
