ABOUT US

ALL LEVELS WELCOME TO JOIN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Muay Thai, or Thai boxing, is often described as the ‘Art of Eight Limbs’. It is a martial art that maximises the use of punches, elbows, kicks, and knees. Muay Thai is steeped in history and traditions closely linked to Thailand’s own history. An integral part of Muay Thai is conditioning – shadowboxing, cardio, abdominal/bodyweight resistance exercises all help to seriously boost your fitness levels, as well as your confidence.

The Archa Tong LSE Muay Thai Club is named after an orphanage in the remote hilltop region of Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. The abbot who has dedicated his life to the orphaned children was once a professional Thai boxer and the Muay Thai taught in the club comes directly from him.

1. Do I have to have prior experience?

Beginners are as welcome as well as more experienced fighters. Each training integrates both basic technique learning and drills on combinations. Our coach is a highly trained fighter who actively competes in Cage Warriors

2. What is the class format like?

15-30 minutes – warm-up, stretching, yoga, conditioning

45-60 minutes – techniques and drills

45-60 minutes – combos and pad work, occasional sparring

15-30 mins - Fitness, HIIT

3. Do I have to spar?

No. Sparring is completely optional and should be done only if you are completely comfortable. We always take caution while sparring and make sure that it is held in safe and friendly environments. There are opportunities for competitive interclub fights throughout the year.

4. What do I need to bring/wear to a class?

Basic gym equipment: Shorts, T-shirt, and water bottle. If you have hand wraps, gloves, and mouth guards, please bring them along as well. If you don't, we will provide

b) Training Equipment (e.g rowing machines, punching bags, ropes etc).

Membership

Our membership allows access to all our events and training sessions (not including the subdued coaching fees) throughout the year. Your membership is also essential for running the club which would go towards the kit that we provide and the costs of events and getting you reimbursements if applicable. It gives you the opportunities to compete at a university level and make really good friends. As our member, you can develop your skills as a Muay fighter or improve your personal fitness, health and strength with the guidance of a highly qualified and professional coach and the support of the rest of the team.
