A statement from your Sabbatical Officers regarding the LSE Seven

We are relieved that LSE has rightly dropped the disciplinary charges against the seven student protestors. However, LSESU acknowledges the distress that the process has caused to the seven students, as well as to the wider LSE Community.

As we expressed in our statement on 28th October 2024, we stand firmly in solidarity with students’ rights to protest and assemble. We are aware that many students are continuing to protest in light of the LSESU Palestine Society’s ‘Assets in Apartheid’ report, and the mounting evidence of the genocide in Gaza. Peaceful protest is a right, and we encourage and stand by all students who continue to do so.

We are seriously concerned by the disciplinary proceedings and challenges brought to our attention by the seven students, particularly regarding the ambiguity of their right to protest, accessibility, and wellbeing.

We want to remind everyone that the Students’ Union is here to support all members of the LSE Community engaging in peaceful activism, as well as those impacted by these events.
