Who we are

Part business, part charity, part membership body – students’ unions are seriously fun places to work. They are organisations in their own right. Professionally run, but different. Professional teams support elected student leaders to make change, improve lives and fulfill potential; we help make it happen.

Founded in 1897, LSE Students' Union is one of the oldest Students' Unions in the UK and is the representative and campaigning body for students at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  Like other Students' Unions, it also funds and facilitates student activities on campus, including societies, sports clubs through the Athletics Union (AU), the Media Group and Raising and Giving (RAG) charitable fundraising initiatives.

About the job

We are currently looking for enthusiastic students to join our student staff team in the LSESU Bar Team.  The LSESU Bars Team provides excellent service within the Saw Swee Hock building, including The Three Tuns Bar, the Venue, and a variety of event spaces. Our team serves LSE students, staff & alumni, as well as a wide variety of external clients.

You will support the day-to-day operations of the LSESU Bars (Tuns and Venue), ensuring that the bars are run in accordance with our policies and procedures, as well as Health and Safety standards. During opening hours, you will provide high quality customer service and maintain a strong working knowledge of our products and offerings.

Outside of the bars, you will occasionally be responsible for drinks service and event support as needed.  Being the face of our Team, you will be expected to deliver positive and professional interactions with our customers and guests, meeting and exceeding their expectations.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for confident, approachable students who enjoy providing a high level of customer service and have a passion for entertainment and social activities. You will need good communication skills with the confidence to actively engage with customers, strong multi-tasking and organisational skills, and an ability to improvise and adapt on the fly.  Attention to detail is a must, as is the willingness to work unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends.  Previous bar event experience will be great to have, but not necessary to fill the role.

Why apply?

How to apply?

We want to ensure that all systems, policies and processes are free from bias or discrimination and are fair and accessible. Therefore, we ask that all candidates complete our application process by uploading the following three documents:

Part 1: CV – Outlining your skills and experience to date.

Part 2: Supporting Statement – A one-page statement explaining your suitability for the role. This will be used to determine if you are shortlisted for an interview. Please do not include any personal information (e.g., name or date of birth). Use the attached job description and person specification to help with this.

Part 3: Equal Opportunities Monitoring and Contact Form – This includes personal information so we can contact you if you are shortlisted for an interview. It also allows us to gather and analyse demographic information about our applicants. This form will only be seen by HR and will not impact shortlisting.

Application forms are formatted to ensure the equality monitoring data is removed before they are reviewed by the shortlisting panel. This process ensures that shortlisting is conducted fairly and consistently, giving all applicants an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
