Huge news:

LSESU's: BME Mentoring Scheme has been nominated for the Community Organisation Award for Race, Religion & Faith at the National Diversity Awards!!! https://www.nationaldiversityawards.co.uk/awards-2023/

Set up 4 years ago by a previous Sabb, the BME Mentoring Scheme matches BME students at LSE with mentors selected out of LSE alumni. Students provide preferences for mentors based on ethnicity, gender, the industry of work, location, and more. Our amazing Campaigns and Policy Coordinator, Caroline Hilgers and Rep Assistant Joe-Ann went through these and matched up over 130 pairs of mentors and mentees!

Caroline then supports these mentorship relationships across the year: providing guides and tips on how to make the most of the mentorship (for both mentors and mentees!); troubleshooting any issues between mentor partnerships; and running workshops and networking events – the most recent of which was completely sold out.

The feedback we get from students on the scheme is phenomenal, with students coming back to take part in the scheme year after year and often applying to be mentors afterwards – one student even volunteered free admin services to help us with the scheme as he enjoyed the programme so much and wanted to give back to it ??
