Many of us international students regard LSE as just a means to an end - a prestigious degree for a prestigious career or postgrad. Should I be elected, the following policies (BOND) can be practically implemented for a more transformative and fun ride through LSE.
Bridge the cliques: Encourage the mingling of different backgrounds.
1. Promote and expand the scope of the international students social (does anybody even know this exists?).
2. Establish a STARs reward category for the “Best Multicultural Event”.
Open up resources: Finding them shouldn’t be a treasure hunt!
1. Create and share a universal doc of all available resources - from financial and visa support to career planning - with detailed descriptions.
2. Develop a system of optional PSAs on useful and new resources before every Michaelmas and Lent Term.
Nurture roots: Enable connections with the wider community.
1. Increase the slots and frequency of one-off volunteering opportunities.
2. Establish a STARs reward category for the “Best Inter-school event”.
Develop futures: Smooth the transition from study to work.
1. Improve deferral policies for international postgraduate students - an extra year for missing one exam is unfair.
2. Develop LSE opportunities geared towards international students.
