About us

LSESU Volleyball is open to ALL LSE students, regardless of their volleyball background.

We offer a range of opportunities for our members including competitive play, casual play and socialising.

Here is the place to meet new people, have fun and enjoy the sport!

Trainings

Competitive Men’s Team: We have the 1st and 2nd Men’s team. The 1st  Men's team competes in the national BUCS Southeastern Division 2 league and has weekly 2h coached training sessions on Sat. 8-10am (alternating with Sat. 10am-12pm). The 2nd Men’s team competes in the national BUCS Southeastern Division 3 league and has weekly 2h coached training sessions on Tuesdays 3-5pm. Commitment to trainings and games on a regular basis is expected. Members of the Competitive Men’s Team have access to all socials, tournaments, friendly games, and trips.

Competitive Women’s Teams: We have the 1st and 2nd Women’s team. The 1st Women’s Team competes in the national BUCS Southeastern Division 1 league and has weekly 2h coached training sessions on Sat. 10am-12pm (alternating with Sat. 8-10am). The 2nd Women’s team competes in the national BUCS Southeastern Division 2 league and trains Sundays 8-10am. Commitment to trainings and games on a regular basis is expected. Members of the Competitive Women’s Teams have access to all socials, tournaments, friendly games, and trips.

Competitive Mixed Teams: We have 1 competitive mixed team. The 1st Mixed team consists of players who also play in the competitive Women’s and Men’s teams (hence no explicit tryouts for this team) and competes in the London-based LUSL Division 1 league. 

Social Team: The Social Team is for everyone who wants to learn how to play volleyball or who doesn’t want to compete. There are no tryouts for the social team; everyone regardless of level and experience can join. The Social Team has a weekly coached training session on Fri. 9-1030am. While everyone is always welcome to join the trainings, there is no expectation in going on a weekly basis (or at all). Social members have access to all socials and parties, the weekly social team training sessions and to the highlight of the year… the end of year beach volleyball trip to Portugal!!!

Events & Socials

Regular/Weekly socials: 

  • Sway Club on Wednesday nights after games.

  • Weekly dinners/drinks after trainings and games.

  • Socials with other AU clubs (At least 1 per term). 

Special events & activities: 

  • Large AU events E.g.,  AU Ball, RAG events (At least 1 per term).

  • Charity Volleyball tournament with other universities 

Trips:

  • Volleyball tournament and trip to Praia Da Rocha beach in Portugal in April!

  • Volleyball tournament and trip to Paris in February!

  • UK-wide trips to other universities!

Competitions

1. BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport):

  • Both our Women’s and Men’s teams compete in the BUCS league, in the South Eastern Tier 2B.  

  • All BUCS games take place on Wednesdays

  • Our Mixed teams compete in the LUSL intermediate league.

Join the LSESU Volleyball family

We have 2 membership options available: Competitive membership and Social membership. 

How memberships work

Competitive team members (Men’s, Women’s, Mixed) have to tryout first before being part of the team. After having made the team and having the confirmation, members can purchase the membership. What the memberships include is listed above.

Members who want to join the social team can just purchase the membership and join, there are no tryouts or restrictions on who can join. What the membership includes is in the section below.

Please find below a detailed overview of each membership:

1. Competitive membership - for member's of the Men's, Women's & Mixed Team: (£80 for MT ONLY) 

  • Opportunity to compete in the BUCS league (Men's/Women's Team) and LUSL League (Mixed Team).

  • 1 coached 2-hour volleyball training session per week.

  • All travel costs for away games covered. 

  • Access to outdoor volleyball sessions at Regent’s park. 

  • Access to volleyball tournaments, friendly games and charity events. 

  • Access to all club events & socials. 

  • Volleyball jerseys will be provided (option to buy personalised one, highly recommended).

  • Opportunity to attend tournaments/trips abroad (cost not covered).

2. Social membership: (£35 for MT ONLY) 

  • 1 coached 1.5-hour volleyball training session every week. 

  • Access to outdoor volleyball sessions at Regent’s park. 

  • Access to volleyball tournaments, friendly games and charity events. 

  • Access to all club socials & events. 

  • Opportunity to attend tournaments/trips abroad (cost not covered).
